British player Jack Draper defeated by Italian player Jannik Sinner in US Open semi-final | UK News

British tennis star Jack Draper experienced a tough loss to Italy’s Jannik Sinner in his first grand slam semi-final at the US Open, having been sick on court four times.

As the 25th seed, he became only the fourth British man in the Open era to reach the semi-finals at New York’s Flushing Meadows.

Despite a strong effort in the first two sets, he ultimately lost in straight sets 7-5, 7-6, 6-2.

Being the first British man to reach the last four in the US Open since Andy Murray won it in 2012 was a significant achievement for the 22-year-old Draper.

Both players received treatment from their trainers during the sweltering match.

The physical strain took its toll on Draper, leading to several instances of vomiting, while Sinner, 33, required attention to his left wrist after a fall during a point he won.

Draper, currently the British men’s number one, had been hailed as the new face of British tennis following Murray’s retirement earlier this year.

His journey to the semi-finals had been flawless, not dropping a set along the way.

Interestingly, he and Sinner are actually close friends and even played doubles together at the Canadian Open last month.

Earlier this year, Sinner faced scrutiny after failing two drug tests; however, he was recently cleared of any wrongdoing after claiming trace amounts of an anabolic steroid entered his system unintentionally during a massage.

He had previously claimed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Sinner now looks to secure his second major championship on Sunday, facing either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe.
