Harris irks Trump with sharp criticism, throwing him off his game | US News

Even the dogs in the street know that he was talking nonsense, as the old saying goes.

Donald Trump repeated the debunked rumor about Haitian immigrants eating pet dogs and cats in Springfield, Ohio.

The debate moderator intervened in a serious tone, mentioning that they had contacted the “city manager” who downplayed the issue.

What initially felt like comedy (with laughter in the spin room) soon turned serious as it was about deciding the next leader of the free world.

Live updates and reactions from Trump v Harris debate

This was not the strongest performance by the leader of the Republican Party.

Kamala Harris showed authority and stage presence that rattled Donald Trump – calling him weak, joking that Vladimir Putin would have him for lunch, and suggesting people left his rallies due to exhaustion and boredom.

It was a level of aggression, disrespect, and insult that Trump rarely faces.

Harris aggressively criticized his record and personality in a way he doesn’t usually face from journalists, neutral or otherwise.

She employed a prosecutor’s structured hostility that unsettled Trump.

Despite this, he responded assertively.

While she presented herself as a president for all Americans, he dismissed her as the worst-ever vice president with a failed White House tenure.

He tried to steer the conversation to topics where he felt confident of scoring points, such as immigration and the economy.

Harris was unlikely to sway a certain segment of the electorate that remains unwavering in their support.

She aimed to appeal to the middle by demonstrating confidence, authority, and qualifications for office, essentially giving voters a reason not to choose Trump.

The winner of this debate needed to leave viewers with a clear preference for one candidate, bolstering their authority and credibility.

Democrats praised Harris’s performance, while Republicans insisted that Trump won the day.

Interestingly, Trump made an impromptu appearance in the spin room afterward, taking questions from journalists.

It raised the question: why not let his 90-minute debate performance speak for itself?

He likely has his own reasons for this, which he may not be willing to share.
