Earthquakes Rumble Beneath the Surface of Northern British Columbia Coast
The northern British Columbia coast experienced two earthquakes beneath the ocean floor on Sunday.
Natural Resources Canada reported that the first quake occurred at 3:20 p.m. with a magnitude of 6, followed by a second quake about an hour later measuring 4.5.
No damage was reported, and none was expected.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake as a 6.5, centered between Haida Gwaii and Port McNeill on the northern tip of Vancouver Island.
The American Tsunami warning center stated that no tsunami was predicted from these earthquakes.
Ben Wilson, the food and beverage manager at the Willows Golf Course in Sandspit, B.C., mentioned feeling the ground shake during his break but was not alarmed by it.
“This earthquake was more noticeable than others I’ve felt here, but not the most significant one,” Wilson said.
