Sir Keir Starmer to hold talks with Donald Trump to ‘cultivate a relationship’ | Political Developments

Sir Keir Starmer is scheduled to meet with Donald Trump later tonight.

This meeting is believed to be the first between the current UK prime minister and the former – and potentially future – US president.

David Lammy, the Labour foreign secretary, has already met with Mr. Trump‘s vice presidential candidate, JD Vance.

In a statement to the press, Sir Keir reiterated his desire to meet both Mr. Trump and Kamala Harris before the November election.

However, meeting with the Democrat candidate is proving to be challenging due to conflicting schedules.

Sir Keir stated: “The purpose of this meeting is to establish a relationship between the two of us.

“I believe that personal relationships are crucial on the international stage.

“It’s important to know who your counterpart is in any given country, to know them personally, and meet them face to face.

“So, the meeting is primarily for these reasons. I won’t disclose the specifics of our discussion, but it’s in preparation for the election.”

When asked about the potential implications of a Trump presidency on Ukraine, Sir Keir emphasized that the “special relationship” between the UK and US transcends any individual office holder.

“The American people will choose their president, and we will collaborate with whoever is elected,” he added.

“I won’t speculate on specific issues that may arise after the election.”

This is a developing news story and more details will be shared soon.
