Trump Speaks at Madison Square Garden: 5 Key Moments

At “The World’s Most Famous Arena” in Manhattan, tens of thousands of supporters gathered for a rally.

Former President Donald Trump held his first campaign speech at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

The event attracted a large crowd of supporters to Manhattan. Trump addressed various topics including ending inflation, securing the southern border, and bringing an end to wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

While much of the speech covered familiar themes, there were a few noteworthy highlights.

Tax Credit for Family Caregivers

Trump announced a new policy supporting a tax credit for family caregivers looking after loved ones at home.

He stated, “I’m introducing a new policy today to provide a tax credit for family caregivers who care for a parent or loved one. They deserve recognition for their contribution to our country. They are often overlooked and ignored, but not anymore.”

Details of the proposal were not provided by the former president. The Republican party’s platform released earlier includes a paragraph that appears to outline a similar policy.

“Republicans will allocate resources towards at-home senior care, address shortages of care workers, and support unpaid family caregivers through tax credits and reduced bureaucracy,” the platform states.

Earlier this month, Harris proposed expanding Medicare to cover home care services for seniors.

The ‘Little Secret’

In a casual remark to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Trump alluded to a “little secret” that would help Republicans maintain control of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“To ensure that we win the elections, we need to elect the Congressmen and Senators. With the little secret we have, we are on track to perform well in the house. Our secret is making a significant impact. We will reveal it after the race is over,” Trump mentioned.

Presently, Republicans hold a slim majority in the House. According to FiveThirtyEight’s analysis, the GOP has a slight 52-48 edge leading into the election. Cook Political Report has classified more than two dozen House races as tossups or too close to predict.

The Call From Google’s CEO

Trump recounted the story of receiving a call from Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, who informed him about the massive online traffic generated by news of a campaign event at a McDonald’s establishment.

“Sundar, a brilliant individual at Google, reached out to inform me about the highest traffic volume on McDonald’s news. He mentioned it was one of the highest ever, or close to it,” Trump shared.

Google did not provide any response to the inquiry.

During his visit to a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, Trump briefly worked at the french fry station and interacted with customers at the drive-thru, taking a jab at Harris who claimed to have worked at McDonald’s.

Earlier in the month, Trump had complained to Google’s CEO about the search engine’s biased representation of his campaign stories.

“They’re very unfair to me, very, very unfair,” Trump stated on Oct. 15. “They only highlight negative stories. If I have 20 positive stories and 20 negative ones, as everyone does, only the negative ones are visible.”

“I called the head of Google and said, ‘My positive stories are increasing, but they’re nowhere to be found on Google.’ It seems like a rigged system to me,” Trump added.

Praise for Musk

Trump spent approximately five minutes praising SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who had campaigned for Trump in Pennsylvania.

Reflecting on the successful landing of the giant Starship booster for the first time, Trump commended Elon Musk.

He recounted, “I was conversing with a billionaire when I witnessed the precise return landing of the massive Starship booster. The 233-foot-tall Super Heavy booster descended from 40 miles above with utmost precision before being ‘caught’ by retractable arms atop a structure at the landing site.”

“I said to him, Elon, was that you? Just about four minutes later, was that your doing? ‘Yes, that was me.’ I responded, ‘Elon, you are a genius. You truly are a genius,’” Trump praised.

Continuing, Trump added, “I asked Elon, can Russia accomplish that? ‘No.’ Can China achieve that? ‘No.’ Can anyone else do it, besides you? ‘No one else can,’ replied Elon. ‘And they won’t be able to for another 10 years.’”

Musk has generously contributed to a political action committee supporting Trump. Before Trump took the stage at Madison Square Garden, Musk briefly addressed the audience and introduced Melania Trump, the former first lady.

Eric Adams

Trump insinuated that New York City Mayor Eric Adams was indicted as retaliation for denouncing the Biden administration’s border policies.

“When he expressed concerns about the influx of migrants into New York, stating it was unsustainable, impractical, and detrimental, I knew he would face charges from these radicals. A year later, he was indicted,” Trump remarked.
