Biden’s comment on ‘garbage’ showcases Democratic elitism and may impact Harris’ chances of winning the presidency

During a crucial moment for the Kamala Harris campaign, President Joe Biden made disparaging remarks about half the nation, referring to them as “garbage” on a recorded Zoom call before Harris’s big speech at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C.

Social media quickly spread Biden’s comments, which received tens of millions of views, leading legacy media to reluctantly cover it. The White House press office attempted to diminish the impact by editing the transcript, but the video and audio evidence clearly show Biden insulting a large portion of the country.

This incident exemplifies a pattern of disdain from the Democratic Party towards working-class and dissenting voters in recent years — from Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton and now to Joe Biden.

The disconnect between these Democratic leaders and the voters they disparage was evident in Clinton’s loss in 2016. Conversely, despite his wealth, Donald Trump’s relatability to working-class voters has been a significant factor in his appeal.

If Harris’s campaign fails, the blame will likely be placed on Biden for his derogatory comments towards Trump supporters at a critical time.
