Spokesman Confirms Netanyahu’s Approval of Airstrikes Against Hezbollah
Israel’s prime minister confirmed that he approved a series of attacks despite objections from senior officials, which was seen as a criticism of recently fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
For the first time, Israel acknowledged that it was responsible for the pager and radio attacks that targeted members of the Hezbollah terrorist group in September, resulting in casualties. This action was taken as Israel was preparing for a ground war against the group.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally authorized the attacks, as stated by his office’s spokesperson on Nov. 11.
“Netanyahu revealed on Sunday [Nov. 10] that he gave the green light for the pager operation in Lebanon,” said his spokesperson Omer Dostri.
He discussed the attack in a closed-door cabinet meeting, mentioning that despite opposition from senior defense officials and political figures, he proceeded with the operation.
Israeli media speculated that this decision was linked to Netanyahu’s dismissal of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant the previous week.
