Border Czar Vows to Strengthen Canadian Border, Labels It as ‘Extremely Vulnerable’

The individual chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to address illegal immigration has a personal tie to the U.S. northern border and is aiming to strengthen it against what he views as significant national security risks.

Trump revealed on Nov. 11 that former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Tom Homan, will supervise federal agencies involved in border security once the new administration assumes office in early 2025.

Speaking with TV network WWNY on Nov. 11, Homan stated that border patrol agents along the northern border are “overwhelmed.”

While a greater number of illegal migrants are entering through the southern border, Homan highlighted the smaller presence of border officers at the northern border, resulting in fewer patrols on roads and waterways, which he considers a significant national security concern.

Homan also mentioned his observation over his 34-year career of “special interest aliens” from terror-sponsoring countries attempting to enter the U.S. from Canada. He pointed out that these migrants opt to cross from Canada due to financial backing, affordability, and lower border surveillance.

“Therefore, the northern border poses a grave national security risk, and addressing this will be a priority for me once I am in the White House,” said Homan, who originates from an upstate New York town and owns property on the border.

“Canada must acknowledge that it cannot serve as a gateway for terrorists entering the United States,” he stressed.

Homan suggested that Trump’s previous “Remain in Mexico” policy could also apply to Canada. This policy, abolished by the Biden administration in 2022, mandated asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for their immigration hearings.
