Dark Smoke Billows from Rooftop Fire in Manhattan Skyline
A blaze on the rooftop of a 44-story luxury apartment building released dark smoke into the New York City skyline on Thursday.
The fire at the Hudson Yards mixed-use development on Manhattan’s west side was first noticed around 11:30 a.m., according to the city fire department. It was brought under control approximately 40 minutes later.
Approximately 80 firefighters rushed to the scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, confirmed a fire department spokesperson.
The blaze was concentrated on the roof of a high-end apartment tower known as The Set, where a bare one-bedroom apartment costs $7,400 to rent, as per the building’s website.
The cause of the fire was being investigated by the fire marshal.
