Democratic Governor Endorses Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for United States Health Secretary Role

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis expressed his support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr., acknowledging the good work he has done.

Gov. Polis initially praised Kennedy after President-elect Donald Trump nominated him as the U.S. health secretary. However, he later rescinded his support for Kennedy’s work on vaccines.

As a Democrat, Polis shared his excitement about the appointment on social media on Nov. 14.

Polis mentioned that Kennedy had helped defeat vaccine mandates in Colorado in 2019 and highlighted his potential to improve the health system in the U.S. by shaking up the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Despite some reservations about vaccine mandates, Polis is optimistic about challenging big pharma and corporate agriculture to enhance public health.

Kennedy has been vocal about the safety and efficacy of vaccines, opposing mandates and advocating for lower drug prices, better nutrition, and reduced pesticide use in agriculture.

Polis remains concerned about Kennedy’s views on vaccines and fluoridation but welcomes action on pesticides and prescription drug costs. He reiterated his belief in the importance of science-based health policies and vaccination, emphasizing the need for a transformation in institutions like the FDA to lower drug costs and promote healthy food choices.

Kennedy expressed gratitude to Polis and pledged to collaborate with him to “Make America Healthy Again.”

Trump had announced earlier that day his intent to nominate Kennedy for the HHS secretary position, overseeing the FDA and other health agencies.

Trump underscored the need for HHS to address issues like harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and food additives contributing to the health crisis. Kennedy vowed to combat corruption, stop industry-government connections, and prioritize evidence-based science for better health outcomes.

In a social media post in October, Kennedy emphasized the importance of informing Americans about vaccine safety, risks, and efficacy without taking away their choice.

While Kennedy has garnered support from some legislators, others like Sen. Patty Murray criticized his views, especially on vaccines, warning that his appointment could hinder public health progress.

Confirmation of presidential nominees, including the HHS secretary, is subject to Senate approval.

Despite some criticism, Republican Senator Mike Crapo praised Kennedy for focusing on chronic disease prevention through consumer choice and healthy living.
