Head of Victoria’s Examination Board Resigns After Exam Questions are leaked on the Internet.
Some students managed to uncover hidden questions in sample papers uploaded by the exam authority.
Victoria’s exams authority chief executive, Kylie White, resigned after a blunder that exposed the actual questions that were meant to be hidden in Year 12 sample exam papers.
Initially, it was claimed that the issue did not affect final exams, but later reports revealed that 56 out of 116 tests were impacted. An in-depth review of the Authority was ordered, and White resigned following this revelation.
An independent panel chaired by Professor John Firth will oversee the reassessment of affected exams to ensure fairness. Anomalies in student responses will be identified, and marks will be adjusted accordingly.
To alleviate additional stress for students, steps are being taken to ensure fair marking of the 2024 examinations. Any invalid questions may result in affected students receiving full marks.
Previous errors by the exam-setting body include typographical errors in exams and incorrect Chinese language papers for some students. Recommendations from an independent review have been made to improve the development and editing processes for exam papers.
Marcia Devlin has been named interim CEO of the VCAA, replacing Kylie White. Permanent appointment details are pending.
