Trump selects Pete Hoekstra as Ambassador to Canada
Former U.S. Ambassador to the Netherlands and ex-Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.) has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be the ambassador to Canada.
“In my Second Term, Pete will help me once again put America first,” Trump said in a statement announcing the nomination on Wednesday night, with all caps. “He did an outstanding job as United States Ambassador to the Netherlands during our first four years, and I am confident that he will continue to represent our Country well in this new role. Thank you, Pete!”
Hoesktra represented Michigan’s 2nd District in Congress for almost two decades, Trump noted, and also chaired the House Intelligence Committee.
Playing a significant role in the 2024 general election as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, Hoekstra supported the Trump campaign’s efforts in the Wolverine State.
