The longtime television actor passed away on Nov. 29 while surrounded by his family after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Wayne Northrop, most recognized for his roles in soap operas “Dynasty” and “Days of Our Lives,” has passed away at the age of 77.
The actor, known for his work on CBS’s “The Waltons” and ABC’s “Baretta,” among others, breathed his last at the assisted living Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home in Los Angeles, California, as confirmed by his publicist Cynthia Snyder to The Epoch Times.
In a subsequent statement, his wife, Lynn Herring Northrop, disclosed that he was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease six years ago and honored him as the loving husband, father, and friend that he was.
“He took his final breath surrounded by family. We are grateful to the exceptional care provided by The Motion Picture and Television Home,” she remarked.
“Wayne brought joy to many with his humor and quick wit. A devoted husband for 43 years, an exceptional father to his sons, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who cherished his cows and valued friendship.”
Northrop is survived by Lynn, their sons, and stepmother Janet Northrop.
Early Career
Born in 1947 in Sumner, Washington, Wayne Northrop earned a degree in communications from the University of Washington before delving into acting at Seattle Community College.
After receiving positive feedback, Northrop decided to wholeheartedly pursue acting. In 1975, he joined the newly established Los Angeles Actors’ Theatre under the guidance of Ralph Waite, which led to him securing his first agent.
Subsequently, he made his television debut in an episode of “Police Story” and went on to establish himself in Hollywood through various appearances on major network shows.
Known for his role as Roman Brady on “Days of Our Lives” throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Northrop later returned to the show in 2005 in a different role, making over 1,000 appearances.
He also portrayed Michael Culhane on the first season of “Dynasty” in 1981 and later reprised the role in Season 7, as well as played “Rex Stanton” on “Port Charles” in 1997.
His credits also include appearances in “Hotel,” “Cold Case,” and “L.A. Law.”
In 1981, Northrop tied the knot with actress Lynn Herring, known for her role in “General Hospital.” Post-acting, the couple devoted the last 35 years to managing and working on a cattle ranch in Raymond, California, in line with their shared love for wildlife and conservation.
In 2008, they acquired the town’s oldest home, transforming it into a local museum and historic site for visitors to enjoy.
