Gov. Gavin Newsom Stands Firm on Trump Controversies Despite Potential 2024 Democratic Setback
For California Democrats, the resounding takeaway from the 2024 election is unmistakable: Reinforce their position.
Just look at the appeal from Gov. Gavin Newsom — currently the standout among potential contenders for the Democratic nomination in ‘28 — who is seeking $25 million from the state Legislature to support anti-Trump litigations.
These lawsuits will likely focus on President-elect Donald Trump’s anticipated immigration strategies and the potential repeal of progressive federal policies.
This strategy is nothing more than an early maneuver in a political campaign.
When will they finally understand?
Trump has just executed a convincing GOP triumph in a generation, claiming all seven swing states along with the popular vote, contributing to a Republican majority in the Senate.
He succeeded because, over the past four years, Democrats have fully embraced open borders, legislation favoring criminals, extravagant spending that has propelled inflation, and divisive racial and gender ideologies that alienate Americans from each other.
Voters had reached their limit, especially regarding the border and the economy.
And they decisively responded No, thanks to the completely ineffectual Kamala Harris and her jumble of outdated leftist ideas.
The Not-So-Golden State, where Harris and many other peculiar figures have launched their careers, stands at the forefront of the problematic concepts driving Democrats toward electoral obscurity.
So you might think that perhaps, just perhaps, the officials in command of this hotbed of Wokeness would engage in some reflection.
Bzzzzzt!
Newsom is diving headfirst into the Trump Derangement Syndrome that led his party to a significant downfall in November, using it as a springboard for his presidential ambitions.
The incessant hatred towards Trump was the Biden administration’s sole focus, and it ended up being completely counterproductive.
Even worse, Newsom — for a fleeting moment — appeared to grasp the situation.
In mid-November, he acknowledged on a podcast that his party was in a delusional state, saying, “Everything’s a bubble. And so you don’t really have a sense of what’s real and what’s not.”
But clearly, he has nothing else to present, so he’s reverted to the same tired anti-Trump rhetoric, acting as if California — plagued by crime, fiscal irresponsibility, and overregulation — is still the ideal model for the nation’s future.
Yes, that’s the state now emblematic of all the worst, most foolish excesses of contemporary leftist politics concerning immigration, homelessness, energy, and beyond.
Some Democrats recognize the need for a shift in strategy, yet Gavin is evidently wagering he can ride this current wave for another four years.
How many more embarrassing election cycles will it take for Newsom and his fellow progressives to truly awaken?
