President-elect Donald Trump’s defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth, is garnering grassroots backing from more than 100 military community members, who intend to march in support of him during his confirmation hearing.

Bill Brown, a Navy SEAL veteran and representative of the Navy SEAL Foundation, is orchestrating the event, where over 100 Navy SEALs plan to rally in favor of Hegseth’s confirmation, reflecting his long-standing commitment to the SEAL community.

“Pete Hegseth has significantly promoted the Navy SEALs Swim. He swam across the Hudson River multiple years. He has always been a staunch advocate for the Navy SEALs, and now it’s time for the Navy SEALs and Bill Brown to support him in any way possible,” remarked podcast host Alec Lace.

Hegseth, a former combat veteran and weekend co-host on Fox News, has been an active participant in the annual New York City SEAL Swim across the Hudson River, an intense multi-sport open-water swimming event designed to unite former SEALs, veterans, police officers, firefighters, and first responders nationwide.

Lace mentioned that Brown circulated an email among the SEAL Swim participants, which reportedly received an “immediate and overwhelming” response, as veterans and participants rallied to back Hegseth, who has been a long-time supporter of the event.

“The veteran community, particularly the SEALs, is stepping up to support Pete,” Lace added.

This support comes after Republican Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa has withheld her endorsement for Hegseth, leading to criticism from Trump’s base.

Ernst’s support will be crucial for Hegseth’s confirmation, as endorsement from Republican senators is vital.

Ernst, a survivor of sexual assault, expressed her need to “speak to Hegseth” regarding issues of sexual assault in the military, suggesting concerns about his character stemming from a past allegation against him that he has vigorously denied since 2017.

Moreover, Ernst disclosed that she wanted to discuss women’s roles in the military with Hegseth, following his previous statements against women serving in combat roles.

“Being a survivor of sexual assault, I have worked extensively on measures regarding sexual assault in the military, so I wish to hear more about that, as well as the role of women in our Armed Forces,” Ernst articulated.

Amid uncertainties surrounding Hegseth’s confirmation, Trump reiterated his support, calling Hegseth a “young man with an impressive record.”

“Pete is doing well now; there was some concern. He is a young man with a great track record. He attended both Princeton and Harvard and excelled as a student at both. He is passionate about the military, and people are starting to recognize that. We will be moving forward with his nomination, along with many others,” Trump remarked in an interview.

“I’ve known him through Fox for quite some time, and he essentially embodies military values. Whenever I speak with him, the conversation always revolves around the military. He is a true military supporter,” Trump added.
