Alvin Bragg’s Recent Actions Against Trump Highlight the Case for His Departure
Alvin Bragg continues his relentless pursuit against Donald Trump, seemingly unconcerned about the potential implications of further manipulating the law to sustain his agenda.
In a recent filing, Bragg requested Judge Juan Merchan (who many view as a biased partisan) to uphold Trump’s guilty verdict while never administering a sentence, effectively denying the defendant any opportunity for appeal.
The district attorney, who fervently defends violent criminals, is evidently willing to trample on the rights of his chosen targets, including the president-elect.
This proposal is the latest in a series of equally disturbing tactics from Bragg, who has suggested that Merchan maintain the threat of a potential sentencing over Trump for the duration of his presidency.
Such strategies would infringe upon Trump’s right to appeal—something both Bragg and Merchan must be anxious about.
The apprehension stems from the likelihood that appellate courts could overturn the verdict, which relies on a series of “novel” legal arguments.
These nonsensical arguments were employed to transform a set of expired business-records misdemeanors into an inflated felony, with Merchan ruling that jurors didn’t need to concur on any specific “crime” Trump allegedly committed to justify this escalation.
It’s a pure Kafka-esque scenario—compounded by Bragg’s recent action, which he acknowledges is not permitted by New York law, essentially arguing that Merchan should proceed regardless because Orange man bad.
In fact, Bragg’s team is attempting to incorporate a concept from an Alabama law designed to uphold guilty verdicts if a defendant dies before the appeals process concludes.
Merchan’s allowance for this case to drag on is an outrageous dereliction of his responsibilities, providing Bragg the opportunity to engage in such third-world tactics.
The actions of the Manhattan DA undermine democratic principles in plain sight, with little to no criticism from our supposed defenders of the republic.
(And this commentary does not even address his unjust prosecution of Daniel Penny, which a rational jury has since invalidated.)
That Bragg is actively seeking new ways to manipulate the law to perpetuate his political vendetta until the very end is further evidence—though none is truly needed—that Governor Kathy Hochul must remove him immediately.
