Trump Appoints Art Collector Nicole McGraw as U.S. Ambassador to Croatia

President-elect Donald Trump described Nicole as a ‘philanthropist, businesswoman, and internationally acclaimed art collector.’

On December 17, President-elect Donald Trump revealed that he has nominated Nicole McGraw, a Florida-based art collector, to be the next U.S. ambassador to Croatia.

“Nicole is a philanthropist, businesswoman, and world-renowned art collector,” Trump stated in a message shared on Truth Social.

According to Trump, McGraw launched her first art gallery in Palm Beach Gardens in 2006. Since then, she has developed a diverse global clientele and a “prosperous hedge fund focusing on fine art investments.”

Her official site states that McGraw earned a BFA in Art History and Studio Art from Southern Methodist University in Texas.

In 2015, she established CANVAS Art Charities, a nonprofit organization aimed at funding public art installations, exhibitions, and educational initiatives that “enhance communities,” her site mentions.

The organization hosts yearly exhibitions in downtown West Palm Beach, contributing over $3,000,000 in public art to the area and making it a notable destination, her site reports.

In 2016, McGraw also established the Canvas Art Fund, focusing on acquiring and marketing high-value distressed art pieces, as detailed on her official site.

As per her biography, she has raised over $2,000,000 for various local charities in the last three years through her efforts. Additionally, she has served on the board of Place of Hope, a faith-driven organization that provides services to abused and neglected children.

Trump remarked that McGraw’s contributions to Place of Hope “raised millions of dollars for neglected and abused children.”

Nathalie Rayes has held the U.S. ambassador to Croatia position since January 2024.

Rayes has formerly been the president and CEO of Latino Victory, a progressive political action committee co-founded by actress Eva Longoria to enhance Latino representation across government.

Earlier in her career, Rayes was responsible for managing the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Relations, International Trade, and Protocol, and she established the city’s first Office of Immigrant Affairs, according to her biography.

This nomination is the latest from Trump, who also recently selected former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle to be the U.S. ambassador to Greece.

Additionally, Trump has nominated former U.S. ambassador to El Salvador and ex-CIA official Ronald Johnson for the U.S. ambassador position in Mexico and private equity real estate investor Tom Barrack for U.S. ambassador to Turkey.

On December 11, Trump also nominated former NFL player and Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker for the role of U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas.
