On Tuesday, a representative of Milei confirmed his plans to be present at Trump’s inauguration in January.
Milei, a member of the Libertarian party, is believed to be the first world leader scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., for the event on January 20th, although arrangements are in progress for additional attendees.
Last week, CBS News reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping, who was personally invited by Trump, is unlikely to participate in the inauguration.
Records from the State Department dating back to 1874 indicate that no foreign head of state has attended a U.S. presidential inauguration in over a century. Typically, the event is attended by U.S. lawmakers, ambassadors, and members of the public.
Having been in office for just a year, Milei has vowed to eliminate Argentina’s currency and capital controls by 2025, a recommendation supported by Trump adviser Arthur Laffer.
Following Trump’s inauguration, Milei has indicated that his government aims to pursue a free trade agreement with the United States.
