Donald Trump Requests Court to Overturn Hush Money Conviction Before Sentencing | US News
President-elect Donald Trump has requested that a New York court dismiss his hush money conviction ahead of the scheduled sentencing on Friday.
The sentencing has been arranged for January 10, just ten days prior to the presidential inauguration.
In May, Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to an alleged plan to conceal a hush money payment to adult actress Stormy Daniels during the final weeks of his 2016 presidential campaign.
A spokesperson for Trump has labeled the case as “lawless” and a “witch hunt”.
The 78-year-old’s legal team has previously sought to overturn the verdict and dismiss the case, citing presidential immunity in light of his potential return to the White House.
Trump has consistently denied any sexual encounter with Daniels but was convicted for falsifying business records linked to a $130,000 (£102,000) payment intended to prevent her from going public with claims prior to the 2016 election.
