In a speech delivered on Tuesday, Trump introduced “Stargate,” a collaborative initiative involving Softbank, OpenAI, and Oracle, focused on constructing data centers across the United States to support AI development.
The CEOs of the involved firms, Softbank’s Masayoshi Son, Oracle’s Larry Ellison, and OpenAI’s Sam Altman, were present alongside Trump for the announcement made in the Roosevelt Room of the White House.
Initially, the project will require a $100 billion investment, which is projected to escalate to $500 billion over the next four years. The first data center is expected to be established in Texas, with plans for expansion to other states in the future.
Trump emphasized that this endeavor represents “the largest AI infrastructure project, by far, in history.”
Last month, Son partnered with Trump to announce Softbank’s commitment to invest $100 billion in the U.S. with the aim of generating 100,000 new jobs.
Furthermore, a 2023 executive order from former President Joe Biden that aimed to “monitor and regulate AI threats” was revoked by Trump on Monday. The current administration contends that the order restrains AI innovation and that Trump’s team “supports AI development rooted in free speech and human flourishing.”
