Trump Ends Fauci’s Security Detail
Since taking office, Trump has removed the security details of several former officials from his administration.
President Donald Trump has rescinded the security detail of Anthony Fauci, who previously served as the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
On January 24, Trump provided his reasoning for this decision.
“When you work for government, at some point, your security detail comes off and you can’t have them forever,” he stated to reporters in North Carolina while assessing the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. “So I believe this is quite standard.
“You can’t maintain a security detail for the entirety of your life just because you held a government position.”
“Based on their interviews, it was time for me to address Dr. Fauci and Dr. [Deborah] Birx, two self-promoters attempting to rewrite history to justify their poor instincts and flawed recommendations, which fortunately I nearly always overturned,” Trump remarked in March 2021, referencing a CNN documentary from that year.
“They made poor policy choices that could have left our country vulnerable to China and others, hindered our economic reopening, and delayed approval of a vaccine for years—placing millions of lives at risk.”
The Epoch Times has reached out to Fauci through Georgetown University, where he is currently employed.
Trump has also removed the security details of other former administration officials.
“Despite my critiques of President Biden’s national-security stance, he chose to extend that protection to me in 2021.
“In 2022, the Justice Department brought criminal charges against an official from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard for attempting to engage a hitman to target me.
“That threat continues today, as demonstrated by the recent arrest of an individual attempting to arrange President Trump’s own assassination. The American public can evaluate which president made the appropriate decision.”
Trump asserted that Fauci and Bolton “have made considerable money” and are therefore capable of hiring their own protection.
“When you have protection, it can’t last indefinitely,” he stated to reporters in the Oval Office. “Do you want to maintain a large number of people guarding individuals for their entire lives? I mean, there are risks to everything.”
