Previously, Graham (R-S.C.) had urged law enforcement to “use” their firearms, and he also labeled former President Biden as the “best person” to bring the nation together after the January 6th, 2021, events.
“You’ve got guns. Use them,” Graham remarked at that time, according to the Washington Post.
Graham’s remarks on Sunday, which criticized Trump’s decision to pardon the protesters, were made during an NBC News “Meet the Press” segment, acknowledging that most of the protesters were nonviolent participants.
“Pardoning those who intruded into the Capitol and violently assaulted a police officer was, in my opinion, a mistake, as it sends the message that such behavior is acceptable,” Graham stated.
“You know, Biden pardoned half his family on the way out. I think the American public will reconsider the president’s pardon power if this trend continues,” he added.
Recently, President Trump stood by his choice to pardon those involved, stating “these individuals have already endured years of harsh imprisonment.”
“Murderers serve no time. If you examine some of these [district attorneys], they pursue political opponents but overlook actual violent offenders on the streets,” Trump asserted in a statement on Tuesday. “Joe Biden pardoned many criminals yesterday. These are the criminals he chose to pardon, and that question should be raised.”
Trump’s “full, complete and unconditional pardons” have released approximately 1,500 individuals who had been serving lengthy sentences due to their participation in the protests.
Moreover, more than two dozen “FBI informants” were reportedly amongst the crowd on January 6th, 2021, said to be providing crucial and credible information to the FBI.
