Democratic strategist James Carville recently compared former Vice President Kamala Harris to a “seventh string quarterback” in a metaphorical “Super Bowl” election.

Before the election, Carville penned an article for the New York Times titled, “Three Reasons I’m Certain Kamala Harris Will Win.”
“In only three months Ms. Harris built a cohesive and energized coalition. From Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to Liz and Dick Cheney, it’s the broadest coalition seen in modern political history… and if the larger coalition turns out with similar enthusiasm, it’s game over for Mr. Trump,” he had previously stated.
After Carville’s “certain” forecast proved incorrect, he has shifted his stance, claiming that the Democrat Party “ran a presidential campaign where, if we were in a Super Bowl, we fielded our seventh string quarterback. That’s what transpired, alright?”
“You can’t solve an issue unless you acknowledge it. None of this was destined to happen. It should never have occurred.”
Carville subsequently criticized Biden, stating: “Joe Biden looms over this catastrophe like a giant. And he does, you can’t – he’s a decent man. ‘James, you shouldn’t say that.’ He’s a lovely person. Who cares! If you don’t win a g*****n election, you’ve accomplished nothing. Zip, nada. You don’t matter.”
“I don’t care how good a person you are. Until Democrats recognize that and stop burying their heads in the sand and using nonsensical language, we need to be, you know, kind to everyone. Forget that! Step all over them,” Carville continued.
The Democratic strategist emphasized that party voters deserved a candidate who could “actually formulate a coherent sentence.”
“Now, had we showcased the incredible talent found in today’s Democratic Party — did you hear what I said? The extraordinary talent that exists in today’s Democratic Party. If people had recognized that, they’d think ‘I had no idea they had candidates like that, who can truly articulate a sentence, who understand how to craft a message, and who can demonstrate achievements,”
he added. “We have not seen an inspiring presidential candidate since 2012.”
Many party leaders, including Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), have echoed Carville’s sentiments, attributing the Democrats’ disheartening defeat in the 2024 presidential election to former President Joe Biden.
Pelosi previously blamed Biden for exiting the race “too late,” after his poor debate performance against Trump last summer, which allowed Harris to claim the Democratic nomination without any primary challenges.
“If the president had stepped aside sooner, perhaps there could have been other candidates in the race,” she remarked. “Because the president endorsed Kamala Harris right away, it effectively eliminated the possibility of a primary back then. If it had been significantly earlier, things might have been different.”
“Kamala, I believe, would have still triumphed, but she might have had a stronger case by reaching out to the public earlier,” she commented.
