Trump: ‘US to Rebuild Gaza Strip’
President Donald Trump commented on the Gaza Strip after his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump, speaking at the White House after the meeting, suggested the United States could potentially “take over” the Gaza Strip to rebuild it.
He reiterated his belief that the people of Gaza deserve a chance to live safely and securely elsewhere, like Egypt or Jordan. Trump proposed that instead of repeating past failures, the U.S. could step in to oversee the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, engaging in thorough cleanup efforts, economic development, and job creation for its residents.
Addressing concerns about the region’s future, Trump expressed his vision of a harmonious community in Gaza, open to all, including Palestinians, Jews, Arabs, and others from the Middle East.
His proposal received mixed responses from neighboring countries, with leaders of Egypt and Jordan initially opposing the idea of taking in more Palestinian refugees to alleviate the situation in Gaza.
When asked about its implications on the two-state peace solution, Trump emphasized the importance of offering the people of Gaza an opportunity for a better life, highlighting the hardships they have endured due to the conflict in the region.
Trump also hinted at the possibility of Jewish sovereignty over Samaria, the northern part of the West Bank, but clarified that no final decisions have been made yet.
Throughout the meeting, Trump and Netanyahu discussed various topics, including the cease-fire in Gaza, potential diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia, and Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Trump commended Netanyahu for his leadership and the progress made in the region.
In addition to his remarks on Gaza, Trump signed executive orders related to the Middle East, withdrawing the U.S. from the United Nations Human Rights Council and UNRWA. He also reinstated sanctions against Iran.
Overall, the meeting underscored the strong partnership between the U.S. and Israel, with both leaders expressing mutual admiration and support for each other’s efforts in the region.
