Super Bowl 2025: Viewing Details, Start Time, and Half-Time Show Performers | Entertainment & Arts News
The 59th Super Bowl is approaching, and the Kansas City Chiefs aim to create history by securing an impressive third consecutive title.
Guided by extraordinary quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs are set to clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, a team they triumphed over two years ago to clinch the title.
This matchup promises to be intense—yet the NFL’s biggest event encompasses far more than just on-field excitement, featuring spectacular halftime performances and million-dollar ad campaigns.
Additionally, pop star Taylor Swift is anticipated to once again be present to cheer on her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of what promises to be a historic Super Bowl.
When is it and how can I watch?
Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to take place at the Caesars Superdome, home of the New Orleans Saints, on Sunday, February 9, with kickoff set for 6:30 PM local time.
The kickoff will be at 11:30 PM UK time.
Coverage will begin at 10 PM on Sky Sports NFL (407) and Sky Sports Main Event (401) on Sunday.
If you’re planning to be on the go, you can also stream the event using Sky Go—available online or through NOW TV with a Sky Sports Day Pass.
These competitors have a history
This will mark the Chiefs’ fifth Super Bowl appearance in six years, following back-to-back victories; one against the San Francisco 49ers last year and the other against the Eagles in 2023.
The Chiefs are early favorites to defeat the Eagles again and aim for what has been dubbed a “three-peat”.
However, the Eagles, who last raised the Lombardi Trophy in 2018, are not to be taken lightly; they’re seeking retribution after their narrow loss to the Chiefs two years prior.
Kansas City was viewed as slight underdogs in that previous contest and fell behind for most of the match.
Entering the final quarter, they trailed 27-21, and their situation appeared dire after Mahomes seemingly aggravated his previously injured right ankle.
Remarkably, Mahomes returned for the final quarter to lead a heroic effort, throwing for two touchdowns to clinch victory.
He also set up Harrison Butker’s decisive 27-yard field goal with just eight seconds remaining, in front of a crowd of 67,827 at the Arizona stadium.
While Mahomes garnered the headlines, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts delivered an equally impressive performance, rushing for three touchdowns and a Super Bowl record of 70 yards.
He also threw for a touchdown in what many consider to be among the greatest Super Bowls ever played.
Hurts has maintained a strong performance leading up to this Super Bowl, contributing three rushing touchdowns alongside fellow Eagles star Saquon Barkley in a dominant 55-23 victory over the Washington Commanders to secure their spot.
The Chiefs faced a more challenging path to the final, narrowly defeating Josh Allen’s Buffalo Bills 32-29, with Butker clinching the winning points with three minutes remaining.
This time around, the Chiefs enter as narrow favorites, predominantly due to their track record in high-stakes situations, though it’s a closely contested matchup with Hurts’ Eagles in excellent form.
Trump will become first sitting president to attend
Having made headlines early on in his new presidency, Donald Trump is set to be the first sitting US president to attend the Super Bowl.
The US Secret Service, in charge of the president’s security, noted that “extensive planning and coordination” are underway ahead of his attendance.
With the leader of the nation present, attendees should expect heightened security measures. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi indicated that further details will be released soon.
Trump has not disclosed which team he will support but hinted at Mahomes, saying there’s a “certain quarterback that seems to be a pretty good winner.”
In a press conference, Mahomes expressed that playing in front of a sitting president is “always cool,” while Kelce referred to it as a “great honor.”
Additionally, the president plans to participate in an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier, part of the network’s pre-game programming, which will be recorded in Florida before the event.
It’s customary for the president to provide an interview to the network broadcasting the football event, although both Trump and his predecessor Joe Biden have been inconsistent with this tradition in the past.
Taylor Swift to appear again – but not for the half-time show
Taylor Swift has become a staple at the Chiefs’ games, frequently attending to support her boyfriend Kelce.
The pop sensation was spotted cheering for him and the team during their AFC Championship victory against the Bills, and later joined him on the field to share a kiss amid falling confetti.
This year, the 14-time Grammy Award winner will be attending back-to-back Super Bowls, as she also supported Kelce last year.
She generated significant buzz last year while arriving just in time after traveling from a concert in Tokyo before the kick-off in Las Vegas.
She arrived well ahead of the game and celebrated after the Chiefs triumphed 25-22 over the 49ers, seemingly winning a beer-chugging contest with celebrity friends including Blake Lively, Ice Spice, and Lana Del Rey.
This time, without a tour, the “Bad Blood” artist might enjoy her role as a supportive spectator while watching fellow American icons perform during the halftime show.
Who is singing the national anthem?
Every memorable Super Bowl kicks off with a stirring rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner, and this year it will be performed by soul singer/songwriter Jon Batiste.
The New Orleans native expressed his excitement to Entertainment Tonight at the end of January, stating: “I’m thrilled to create an arrangement that stands the test of time.”
Joining him will be Christian recording artist Lauren Daigle and jazz musician Trombone Shorty, who will deliver a performance of “America the Beautiful.” R&B vocalist Ledisi will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Who is performing in the halftime show?
Kendrick Lamar was confirmed as the headliner last September, shortly after his highly publicized rap feud with Drake.
Two diss tracks aimed at the Canadian rapper topped the charts last year, and his latest album “GNX” received critical acclaim upon its release in November.
In a statement following his announcement for the Super Bowl, the 17-time Grammy-winning rapper noted: “Rap music remains the most influential genre to this day. And I’ll be there to remind everyone why. They picked the right one.”
He has a proven track record to back this claim, having previously performed at the 2022 halftime show, joining an all-star lineup including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Anderson .Paak, and Eminem at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Halftime shows generally feature surprise guests, and multi-Grammy-winning artist SZA has already been confirmed as a guest performer.
On January 23, a trailer released by Lamar and Apple Music showcased him walking onto a football field before SZA approaches from behind and playfully splashes him with water.
The pair share hits such as the Oscar-nominated “All The Stars” and “Doves In The Wind” and have collaborated on tracks from Lamar’s latest album.
What about the famous Super Bowl ads?
The Super Bowl is not only the pinnacle for football players, but it’s also the ultimate platform for advertisers eager to reach millions of viewers, as audiences are just as eager to see the ads as they are the game itself.
“This is a cultural moment where we unite as a nation,” stated Kimberly Whitler, a marketing professor at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. “Despite our differences… we come together.”
This year, companies are reportedly paying up to $8 million (£6.4 million) for a 30-second ad space, an increase from around $7 million the previous year.
OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, are rumored to debut their first-ever television advertisement during this year’s Super Bowl, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, to keep up with competitors like Google.
Ads are often released in advance to maximize publicity, ensuring companies get the most return on their investment from their multimillion-dollar campaigns.
Many advertisers also release ad teasers, showcasing which celebrities will be endorsing their products.
Celebrities we know are featuring in ads
Here’s a snapshot of some renowned stars expected to appear during the broadcast:
Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey will present a humorous conspiracy theory about football being invented solely to sell food in an Uber Eats ad, joined by British singer Charli XCX and American television personality Martha Stewart, where they engage in the “We listen and we don’t judge” TikTok trend to share misconceptions they’ve each encountered.
“I thought a Super Bowl was something I could order on Uber Eats,” claimed Charli XCX to Stewart as they relax on a sofa with a takeaway bag.
Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal are reuniting for a When Harry Met Sally themed ad, set in Katz’s Deli, featuring the duo relishing a sandwich with Hellmann’s mayonnaise, with Sydney Sweeney making a cameo to deliver the iconic line: “I’ll have what she’s having.”
Actress-turned-TV-host Drew Barrymore and actor Orlando Bloom are starring in MSC Cruises’ inaugural Super Bowl commercial, featuring Barrymore singing Madonna’s “Holiday” while aboard a cruise ship in the teaser.
Meta will showcase its Smart Glasses with Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pratt, promoting the Ray-Ban line as they share playful videos on Instagram. Hemsworth even munches on a bananas from an art installation valued at $6.2 million, with Kris Jenner appearing to chide both actors.
This year, there’s a star-studded lineup of beer advertisements, including David Beckham learning of a long-lost twin brother (revealed as Matt Damon) in a Stella Artois teaser, and Post Malone, making his third appearance in a Bud Light ad alongside comedian Shane Gillis.
Food ads feature stars such as singer Doja Cat, who has lent her voice to Taco Bell in their promotional spot, while Adam Brody and Nick Offerman team up with basketball star James Harden for a Pringles campaign.
Nestle Coffee Mate will feature singer Shania Twain, while actor Eugene Levy humorously loses his eyebrows in a Little Caesars pizza ad, and Haagen-Dazs brings together Fast & Furious stars Michelle Rodriguez, Vin Diesel, and Ludacris who take their time enjoying ice cream rather than speeding off.
Additionally, some ads will convey more serious messages, with rapper Snoop Dogg and Super Bowl record holder Tom Brady addressing the importance of combating hate speech for the Foundation To Combat Antisemitism.
