Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), disclosed that the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) allocated $59 million last week to accommodate illegal immigrants in “luxury” hotels in New York City.

“The @DOGE team has uncovered that FEMA disbursed $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City for illegal migrants,” Musk shared in a post on X. “This expenditure contravenes the law and represents blatant disregard for the President’s executive order.”

“These funds are intended for disaster relief for Americans, not for top-tier accommodations for undocumented individuals!” he argued.

Musk also mentioned that his agency is striving to “recoup” the funds through a “clawback demand,” which is a formal appeal for FEMA to return the money or risk facing legal or legislative consequences.

This announcement comes after President Donald Trump expressed his desire to see FEMA “dissolve,” criticizing the agency’s response to the North Carolina disaster and advocating for states to manage disaster relief instead, last month.

Continuing his critique, Musk highlighted the inconsistency in prioritizing funds for undocumented immigrants over U.S. citizens who were affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, fire disasters in Maui, and the community affected by toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio.

“Under Biden, FEMA redirected funds meant for Americans requiring disaster assistance to provide luxury accommodations for undocumented individuals. This is pure evil,” Musk asserted.

Furthermore, President Trump signed an executive order to establish a council aimed at scrutinizing FEMA, citing “significant concerns regarding political bias” within the organization.

Trump also instructed that FEMA funds be allocated directly to U.S. citizens affected by Hurricane Helene and other disasters, rather than for the accommodation of undocumented immigrants.
