Jack Schlossberg: Grandson of Kennedy Shares Letters
Kennedy Critique
It’s hard to believe how disgraced President John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy Onassis would feel about their vulgar, entitled grandson, Jack Schlossberg (“Kennedys’ heir-head,” Feb. 7).
The shameful manner in which he insults both family and outsiders highlights just how far we’ve strayed from the Camelot era.
(Although his mother isn’t completely blameless either.)
All he’s showing is his desperate need for relevance.
Maybe he should revisit some speeches from his grandfather and uncle to comprehend their true essence.
We can count ourselves fortunate that he has removed his social media accounts.

Chairman Trump
Of all the actions our tumultuous president is taking to permanently alter our nation, his acquisition of the esteemed Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts stands out as one of the most ridiculous (“Quitting Kennedy Center,” Feb. 14).
President Trump has shown no inclination towards appreciating art and culture; his primary interests lie in sports, particularly boxing.
How long before this venerable institution is renamed the Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts?
What will the future Kennedy Center Honors look like: perhaps awarded to Hulk Hogan or Mike Tyson?

Transplant Ethics
The decision to deny a donor heart to an unvaccinated patient is scientifically justified (“How Heartless!” Feb. 13).
Heart transplant recipients require immunosuppressive medications to lower the chance of organ rejection.
These medications heighten the risk of infections, including flu and COVID, which can be deadly.
What’s truly cruel is losing a transplant candidate — along with the donated organ — to a preventable illness when 3,500 Americans wait for the life-saving opportunity of a new heart.

Back to Basics
The prevalence of “sane-washing” articles in mainstream media no longer surprises me (“Trump to nix Biden restrictions on water-using appliances, lightbulbs: ‘Common sense standards,’ ” Feb. 11).
Why would a headline feature “common sense standards” when President Trump is advocating for a return to technology from the late 1800s and early 1900s?
It appears that Trump’s fascination with the past is now shaping his administration’s policies.
LED lights, which are energy-efficient (saving up to 80%) and last longer than outdated incandescent options, can save the average household up to $600 annually.
Using costly, environmentally harmful technology simply because an older individual wishes to appear younger seems rather ludicrous.

Whimsical Politics
Just when you think American politics couldn’t get any more absurd, Rep. Earl “Buddy” Carter is attempting to rename Greenland to “Red, White and Blueland.”
(“Going for Greenland,” Feb. 11).
I had to do a double-take to ensure it wasn’t actually April Fool’s Day.
The absurdness is magnified by President Trump’s recent efforts to officially reduce genders to just male or female, disregarding reality, while simultaneously attempting to erase the spectrum of colors associated with the rainbow.
One would think that “Red, White, and Blueland” would be too ostentatious for Trump.
