Competition Bureau reinforces claim that Rogers’ ‘Infinite’ data claim is untrue
The Competition Bureau is reasserting its argument that Rogers’ claim of unlimited data is deceptive.
In response to Rogers’ recent defense filing, the Commissioner of Competition reiterated the accusation that the company’s ads give a false impression that its “Infinite” wireless plans offer customers endless data.
Last December, the bureau announced a lawsuit against the carrier, arguing that the unlimited data claims are misleading because data speeds are significantly reduced once a cap is reached.
In its defense filed in February, Rogers stated that the bureau unfairly singled out the company for using an advertising format common among its competitors.
Rogers also mentioned that the bureau overlooked Rogers’ consistent disclosure of plan details and consumers’ general understanding of such plans. They claimed the bureau selected specific advertisements out of context to support its argument.
Rogers has not yet responded to requests for comment.
