Frack, Kathy, Frack: New York’s Energy Dependence on Canada Hangs in the Balance

If Governor Kathy Hochul had chosen to support fracking for natural gas instead of waging a war on carbon-based fuels, New York wouldn’t have to be as concerned about the potential disruption to its energy imports amid a looming US-Canada trade conflict.

While Pennsylvania adopted hydraulic fracking for shale gas two decades ago, New York opted against it.

Even more troubling, the Hochul-Cuomo “Climate Action Plan” has led to skyrocketing utility bills due to hidden surcharges that finance windmill projects and other impractical initiatives.

Moreover, it compels residents to transition to electric stoves, heating, vehicles, etc., without actually increasing the local supply of electricity.

Natural gas accounts for over 70% of home heating statewide, and it generates 63% of Con Ed’s electricity.

It would be beneficial if we were utilizing the state’s abundant natural gas reserves rather than relying on imports for fuel (and electricity) from neighboring states.

In fact, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recommended in 2023 that New York and other Northeastern states enhance their gas-energy infrastructure; Hochul chose to disregard this advice.

These environmentally conscious measures do not significantly impact climate change; instead, they impose additional burdens and risks on New Yorkers who work hard.

It’s time to abandon these extreme energy policies, Governor: Frack, Kathy, frack.
