Biden Administration Allocates Taxpayer Funds to Progressive Climate Nonprofits
In the waning moments of the Biden administration, a staggering amount of taxpayer funds were distributed to newly established “climate” organizations, as part of a frenzied effort to channel money to leftist activists — with the troubling specifics emerging thanks to the new Environmental Protection Agency head, Lee Zeldin.
Last month, Zeldin revealed that his team had uncovered $20 billion in taxpayer funds sitting in the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund at an outside institution (which turned out to be CitiBank) awaiting distribution to a select group of extreme climate nonprofits.
Clearly, they were ready to feast.
Climate United Fund received nearly $7 billion (delivered via a check from Vice President Kamala Harris) merely five months after its inception in November 2023.
Justice Climate Fund, which attracted $940 million, was formed in 2023 and has yet to file a single tax return with the IRS.
Power Forward Communities Inc. claimed $2 billion from the public fund, despite also being established in 2023 and reporting a meager $100 in revenue for that entire year.
That organization is linked with Rewiring America, where former Georgia legislator and notorious election denier Stacey Abrams serves as “corporate counsel.”
Noticing a trend here?
Funds from this slush fund were allocated to newly minted, entirely untested charities that appear to be little more than fronts for Democratic-connected individuals.
These organizations were selected to act as intermediaries with the power to determine, without any federal oversight, which other nonprofits or projects would benefit from the funds, away from public scrutiny.
Accountability is clearly not a priority!
The term “cynical” fails to fully capture the essence of this cash grab: In legislation dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act, hundreds of billions were earmarked under the guise of combating climate change, with a significant portion heading straight to connected allies, without any intention of ensuring it served a purpose beyond enriching progressive/Democratic associates.
While it may not be illegal, it still amounts to wastage of taxpayer funds to enrich acquaintances.
As Zeldin explained to The Post: “Out of the eight pass-through entities that accessed funding from the $20 billion in taxpayer funds, many recipients showed minimal qualifications to manage even a single dollar, let alone billions.”
He has called for an investigation by the EPA’s inspector general; who knows what further abuses might be uncovered.
Recovering $20 billion won’t significantly impact the national debt, but Zeldin’s attempts to reclaim it are significant nonetheless.
The practice of diverting public money to questionable nonprofits that merely pay homage to the “right” causes must come to an end — at least, if we are to restore Americans’ trust in their government.
