Musk’s Visit to the National Security Agency: A DOGE Connection?
A spokesperson for the agency confirmed the visit in a statement to The Epoch Times.
Elon Musk, who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under the Trump administration, made a visit to the National Security Agency (NSA) on March 12, just one week after criticizing the intelligence agency for needing an “overhaul.”
Musk’s initial visit to the agency was hosted by NSA Director Gen. Timothy Haugh, who also serves as the commander of the U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM), as confirmed by an NSA spokesperson to The Epoch Times.
“NSA and CYBERCOM are focused on the priorities of the President, Secretary of Defense, and Director of National Intelligence; meetings with key advisors ensure we are aligned,” stated the spokesperson.
Through DOGE, Musk is driving efforts within the Trump administration to streamline government and align each agency’s mission with the president’s “America First” vision, a goal the president has highlighted through numerous executive orders.
Since late January, DOGE has been scrutinizing expenditures at various agencies, and Musk hinted that his team would eventually focus on the Department of Defense, which includes the NSA. However, it remains unclear if discussions during Musk’s visit touched on budget cuts or potential personnel reductions at the agency.

DOGE did not provide a response to a request for comment by publication time.
The agency is responsible for delivering secure wireless and wired communications to active-duty military personnel globally.
Musk’s engagement with the NSA underscores his important role as a special government employee and advisor to Trump.
He has indicated that a substantial portion of DOGE’s initiatives is focused on modernizing federal technological systems, a move that Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has praised in the context of broader efforts to upgrade and reform the U.S.’s aging air traffic control systems.
So far, DOGE has proposed the dismissal of thousands of federal employees and has targeted billions in spending cuts.
In a conversation with Fox Business’s Larry Kudlow on Monday, Musk revealed plans to double the size of DOGE’s workforce as it continues its review across federal departments.
“We’re attempting to operate broadly across all departments, rather than focusing on just one,” Musk explained.
When Kudlow inquired if this implied DOGE’s involvement in all federal agencies, Musk affirmed, “Pretty much, yeah.”
