Global leaders have started to respond following Donald Trump’s announcement of broad tariffs worldwide.
Mr. Trump has declared a 10% trade tariff on all imports from the UK.
He stated that he plans to implement a 10% baseline tariff on all imports into the US, along with increased duties on several of the nation’s top trading partners.
During a White House event titled ‘Make America Wealthy Again’, the president showcased a chart highlighting the most significant offenders, accusing foreign “cheaters”.

Trump’s tariffs explained
Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin expressed that there is “no justification” for the US tariffs.
“I deeply regret the US decision to impose 20% tariffs on imports from the European Union,” the taoiseach remarked.
“We see no reasoning for this. Over €4.2bn worth of goods and services are exchanged between the EU and the US every day.
“Disrupting this well-integrated relationship benefits no one. Tariffs inflate costs, negatively impact people on both sides of the Atlantic, and jeopardize jobs.”

Manfred Weber, the leader of the largest party in the European Parliament, the EPP, commented: “To our American friends, today isn’t liberation day – it’s resentment day. Donald Trump’s tariffs do not support fair trade; they undermine it out of fear, harming both sides of the Atlantic.
“Europe stands united, prepared to defend its interests, and open to fair, serious negotiations.”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese noted: “The American people will bear the greatest cost of these unjustified tariffs.
“This is why our government will refrain from imposing reciprocal tariffs. We will not engage in a downward spiral that results in higher prices and reduced growth.”
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, viewed as a close ally of the US president, referred to the tariffs as “incorrect” and stated they would not benefit the United States.
“We will do everything in our power to reach an agreement with the United States, aiming to prevent a trade war that would inevitably weaken the West in favor of other global players,” she asserted.
