Two Dead and Five Injured in FSU Shooting; Shooter Identified as Sheriff’s Deputy’s Son – One America News Network

UPDATE 2:15 PM- Florida officials offered new details during a press conference concerning the shooting incident at Florida State University.

Chief of Police at FSU, Jason Trumbower, reported that “two individuals have lost their lives” due to the shooting. While their identities have not yet been disclosed, officials confirmed they were not students at the university.
Additionally, five people have sustained injuries.
The assailant has been identified as Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old individual and son of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy. He has been part of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Youth Advisory Council.
Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil stated that Ikner had access to his mother’s firearms and had previously participated in training programs with the department.
“Regrettably, her son had access to one of her weapons, which was found at the scene,” McNeil noted. “We are continuing our investigation into how that firearm was utilized and whether he had access to other weapons.”
“This incident is devastating in more ways than anyone present can comprehend from a law enforcement viewpoint,” McNeil expressed during the press conference. “I assure you that we are committed to prosecuting this case vigorously to send a clear message that such acts will not be tolerated in Leon County or anywhere else across this state and nation.”
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell mentioned that the suspect was shot by FSU Police after he “failed to comply with police orders.” After his arrest, the injured suspect chose not to speak to authorities. Ikner is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
10:27 AM: Police responded to reports of an active shooter situation on the Florida State University campus today.
A senior school official confirmed that “multiple individuals” were injured during the incident.
Initial reports indicate the suspect is now in custody; however, no further information has been released regarding the detained individual.
At least four victims are presently receiving care at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare, as confirmed by the hospital’s spokesperson. Their conditions remain unknown.
The university disclosed that the shooter was located near the Student Union.
During the active shooter situation, school officials urged students across the campus to find shelter.
“An active shooter has been reported near the Student Union. Police are present or en route. Please seek shelter and await further instructions. Lock all doors and windows and be ready to take further protective measures,” the alert stated.
Following the apprehension of the shooter, Florida State University canceled all classes for the remainder of the day and warned students to evacuate the premises and steer clear of the area.
“Individuals not currently on the main campus should avoid heading to the Tallahassee campus at this time,” the university advised.
Responding officers highlighted that the “FDLE [Florida Department of Law Enforcement] is actively involved in the situation at FSU, and we will provide the public with more updates as soon as possible.”
The FBI is also working closely with local law enforcement on-site.
Meanwhile, footage recorded during the ordeal showed several FSU students fleeing the area.
