Vice President JD Vance has outlined a more ambitious future for U.S.-India relations.

During his inaugural official visit to India, Vance laid the groundwork for a potential new trade agreement between the two significant nations.
Speaking at a forum in Jaipur on Tuesday, Vance characterized the relationship between the countries as one of camaraderie and collective purpose.
He urged business and government leaders from both nations to collaborate in creating a new global framework grounded in shared interests and mutual regard.
The Vice President also revealed that the U.S. and India have completed negotiations on new trade discussions, aiming to double bilateral trade to $500 billion by the end of the decade.
“I see this as a crucial step towards fulfilling President Trump’s and Prime Minister Modi’s vision, as it establishes a roadmap for a final agreement between our countries,” Vance remarked. “I believe that America and India have much to achieve together. Today, I would like to discuss several areas of collaboration and how our two nations can work in unison.”
Vance then mentioned President Trump’s trade strategy, emphasizing that it is not about conflict, but fostering positive global change.
He reiterated that the Trump administration is dedicated to forging trade relationships founded on fairness rather than exploitation.
“Our administration seeks trade partners based on fairness and common national interests,” he elaborated. “We aim to build relationships with nations that value their workers, who do not suppress wages to enhance exports but honor the worth of their labor. We want allies committed to collaborating with America to create, rather than merely serving as a conduit for transporting goods produced elsewhere.”
Vance also commended India for its optimism, vibrancy, and forward-looking vision, contrasting it with what he described as “self-doubt” among western leaders.
He portrayed Prime Minister Modi as a thoughtful leader focused on the future, who shares President Trump’s ambitions and loyalty.
Vance highlighted that while the U.S. and India have different systems and traditions, they share a mutual commitment to growth, innovation, and national pride.
He concluded by declaring the U.S.-India alliance as one of the most significant partnerships of the 21st century.
“I am convinced that if India and the United States collaborate successfully, we will experience a 21st century that is both prosperous and peaceful. Conversely, if we fail to work together effectively, the 21st century could pose serious challenges for all of humanity.”
