Gabbard Calls on DOJ to Take Action Against Two Accused Leakers
The National Intelligence Director emphasized the urgent need to put an end to the unauthorized release of classified information.
As reported by Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard, two individuals purportedly connected to the intelligence community have been referred to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for potential prosecution.
Gabbard stated, “The politicization of our intelligence and the leaking of classified information jeopardizes our nation’s security and must cease,” adding that “those who leak classified information will be identified and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
She further remarked, “These deep-state offenders have leaked classified information for partisan political purposes to subvert the President’s agenda. I anticipate collaborating with the [Justice Department and FBI] to investigate, dismiss, and prosecute these violators,” she expressed.
Requests for additional information from Gabbard’s office went unanswered, and inquiries directed to the DOJ also received no response.
According to Gabbard, the unnamed officials disclosed information to The Washington Post, which had recently covered a classified evaluation regarding the Tren de Aragua gang, suggesting that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is not orchestrating any invasion of the United States.
She asserted that her office “fully endorses the assessment that the foreign terrorist group, Tren De Aragua, operates with the backing of the Maduro regime and therefore is subject to arrest, detention, and removal as alien enemies of the United States.”
Gabbard emphasized that “eliminating this politicization of intelligence is precisely what President Trump campaigned on and what the American public overwhelmingly supported.”
Under federal law, individuals who communicate, provide, transmit, or otherwise make classified information accessible to an unauthorized person can face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
“The Justice Department is launching a criminal inquiry into the selective leaking of misleading, yet still classified, information from the Intelligence Community concerning Tren de Aragua,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche mentioned at that time.
“We will not tolerate efforts by the Deep State that are politically motivated to undermine President Trump’s agenda by leaking false information to their allies at The New York Times.”
