Suspect Taken Into Custody for Alleged Theft of DHS Secretary Noem’s Purse
On Easter Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had her purse stolen while dining with her family.
A suspect has been apprehended in relation to the theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s purse, which occurred during a family meal on Easter Sunday, with officials stating that he is in the country illegally.
Noem reportedly lost $3,000 in cash along with her keys, driver’s license, passport, and Homeland Security badge on April 20.
“This individual is a career criminal who has been in our country illegally for years,” Noem expressed in an email statement to NTD. “Sadly, many families in this country have fallen victim to crime, and that’s why President Trump is tirelessly working to ensure America is safe and to remove these criminal aliens from our streets.”
According to Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool of the Secret Service Washington field office, an investigation coordinated by the Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department resulted in the arrest of the suspect on April 26 in Washington. Charges are still pending.
The name of the individual accused of stealing Noem’s purse has not yet been released. McCool described the suspect as a “serial offender” who likely was unaware of Noem’s position at the time of the incident.
“I appreciate the efforts of the Secret Service, ICE, and our law enforcement partners in locating and arresting the individual who stole my bag on Easter Sunday while I enjoyed a meal with my family at a restaurant in Washington, D.C.,” Noem stated.
The money in Noem’s purse was intended for her children and grandchildren’s Easter gifts, dinner, and various activities, as stated by Homeland Security.
McCool also mentioned potential evidence of device and credit card fraud.
The Metropolitan Police Department has acquired video evidence indicating that the suspect is likely connected to two additional purse thefts in Washington restaurants during April, for which he has been charged.
The Secret Service is anticipated to present its findings to federal court after concluding the investigation into Noem’s purse theft.
Requests for comments from U.S. Attorney Ed Martin’s office remained unanswered by press time.
