The heartbreaking event occurred in the early morning hours of April 27th, as Hoffman was responding to a standard police-dispatched medical call.

While they were on their way to the hospital, Shanetta Bossell, 38, whom the paramedics were transporting, allegedly stabbed Hoffman in the chest inside the ambulance. Following the attack, Hoffman was rushed to North Kansas City Hospital but succumbed to his injuries despite medical intervention.

A spokesperson from the hospital revealed that the knife had penetrated Hoffman’s heart — as reported by KCTV.

Bossell has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree assault, armed criminal action, and resisting/interfering with a felony arrest. She currently faces a bond set at $1 million.

Just days prior to the incident, on April 23rd, Bossell was charged with assault and resisting arrest, according to KCTV. In a previous case, she faced charges after attacking an officer. Bossell’s previous bond was set at $10,000, which was posted prior to Saturday, April 26th.

Local authorities, especially the Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD), expressed their shock and sorrow upon hearing of Hoffman’s death. They released a photo of him alongside their condolences on social media.

“Graham was described by fellow firefighters and academy classmates as compassionate, caring, loving, and a leader both on and off duty. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of KCFD Firefighter Paramedic Graham Hoffman,” KCFD stated. “He was a devoted professional who cherished serving his community. He will be profoundly missed. Funeral details will be shared shortly. Rest in peace, Firefighter Graham Hoffman.”

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas also honored Hoffman’s memory, sharing updates regarding the case on X.

“The fact that he was taken from us while dedicated to saving lives makes this loss even more heart-wrenching,” Lucas said, as noted by Fox News Digital. “This senseless act highlights the dangers our first responders encounter daily. The suspect remains in custody while the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office collaborates with the police department for further charges. We will ensure accountability for not only the suspect but also for any lapses in the system.”
