Sports Reporter to Take Over Hadley’s 2GB Throne
The host of 2GB’s Wide World of Sports segment, Mark Levy, is to take over from Ray Hadley, who announced his retirement recently.
Mark Levy, who until now has hosted 2GB’s Wide World of Sports programme, is to take over the breakfast show after long-time broadcaster Ray Hadley retires.
The changeover could happen as early as next week (Dec. 16) after Hadley made the announcement on his show on Dec. 10.
“That’s Mark Levy in the studio,” Hadley said on air. “He is my replacement as of next Monday, actually, he’s taking over, so that’s wonderful news for the station and wonderful news for our listeners as well.”
He said people had been sending him messages asking that Levy take the spot.
“I’ve written back … and said ‘It’s not my decision, it’s a decision for management, and it’s been taken, and I can only heartily endorse the decision they’ve made,” Hadley said.
Levy, aged 40, said he was “extremely honoured” to be taking over the morning show.
“As a young kid I grew up listening to the talkback kings, and to be taking over a timeslot that’s been owned by a mentor and a friend for the last 20 years is something I am excited about and extremely honoured to do,” Levy said.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead, and I can’t wait to speak to our loyal listeners every morning about the issues affecting them in what’s shaping up as an important election year.”
Announcing Levy’s appointment, 2GB said Levy had acted as a regular replacement for Hadley and Ben Fordham as part of an 18-year career, with his “long-standing connection to the audience” making him the “prefect choice” to make the role a permanent one.
“Levy has won six Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRA), including for Best News Coverage this year, for his fast and accurate broadcasting of the Bondi Junction attacks where, along with Ben Fordham and Will Bottom, he led the way, leading to a 40 percent spike in listening,” the statement said.
