After being diagnosed with COVID-19, most people would have recovered, but some have very distressing symptoms of long COVID, which interfere with their normal lives and work.

A recent study by The Lancet, a well-known medical journal, found that one-eighth of the people infected with COVID-19 develop at least one symptom of the long COVID.

Types of long COVID symptoms vary, some last more than two months, while some last more than a year, including fatigue, dyspnea, hair loss, rashes, cognitive dysfunction, sleep disturbance, myocarditis, acute kidney injury, extreme tiredness and fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain or tight chest, brain fog, heart palpitations, changes in smell and taste, joint pain, nausea and vomiting, tinnitus, depression, anxiety, and so on.

The toxicity of COVID-19 comes from the destruction of body cells during the replication process of the virus, and its spike protein is also a poisonous protein that is harmful to the body.

For people who have been vaccinated, the additives of the vaccine are also harmful to the body, such as graphene oxide and so on. In addition, the spike proteins produced by body cells triggered by the vaccine itself, also harm the body.

Therefore, once various problems come together and it exceeds the human body’s ability to overcome the problems, the symptoms of the long COVID will occur.

In fact, many symptoms caused by vaccination are very similar to those caused by the long COVID. Maybe the symptoms are just not so obvious, because after the vaccine is injected, the body will produce a lot of spike proteins, forcing the body to produce immunity, which is similar to the symptoms of infection.

From the point of view of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM):

  • Fatigue is due to the damaged qi (vital energy) of the body, and people do not feel well;
  • Dyspnea is because the body is weakened and people feel unable to breathe;
  • Chest pain and chest tightness are due to damage to the lung qi (vital energy of lung), and the chest feels suffocated;
  • Hair loss is due to damaged qi (vital energy), and the qi and blood cannot nourish the roots of the hair;
  • Rashes are caused by the heat toxin generated after the disease, which causes the skin to be red and swollen;
  • Cognitive dysfunction is due to the jing (essence) of the brain being damaged, and the brain functions less flexibly;
  • Palpitations are caused by the deficiency of the qi of the heart (vital energy of heart), people can feel the heartbeats all the time;
  • Change of smell and taste is caused by heat poison;
  • Joint pain is the immune response induced by the disease;
  • Nausea and vomiting are injuries to the spleen and stomach;
  • Tinnitus is due to the excess of internal heat due to the body’s poor general condition;
  • Depression is caused by the deficiency of qi and blood;
  • Anxiety is due to the weakening of the body.

TCM has certain advantages in regulating the health after long COVID infection by adjusting qi, blood, yin, and yang. Restoring body functions can reduce the symptoms of long COVID. However, the human body will still need time to slowly recover from the damage caused by the toxicity of the virus.

In general, for the symptoms of weakening, some medicines that nourish qi and blood can be used, such as Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus, angelica, wolfberry, and so on.

For symptoms of severe heat toxicity, dandelion, Hedyotis diffusa, Paeonia Suffruticosa, and so on can be used to clear heat and detoxify.

Palpitations and tinnitus can be healed by some nourishing yin and blood drugs, such as prescription of Look Mei Pills, Sheng Mai Drink, and so on.

Other more complex symptoms can be adjusted according to the different changes in the body’s qi, blood, yin, and yang.

The symptoms of long COVID can be dangerous. Some symptoms are so serious that people have thought about suicide, and some eventually passed away. When you feel very uncomfortable, maybe an appropriate regulation of your body can improve your condition and help you to get through a difficult time.
