100 People Missing in Maui Contradict Governor’s Assertion

The number of people missing from the Maui wildfire remains at 385, with 245 people being located and removed from the list, while new names were added. This was unexpected, as it was believed the number would drop below 100. The governor stated that exact numbers will take time to finalize. The wildfire resulted in at least 115 fatalities and turned the town of Lahaina into rubble. Half of the town’s residents are now living in temporary accommodations, and the cleanup process is expected to take years and cost billions. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but downed power lines are suspected. The utility company responsible for the power lines has acknowledged its role in starting the fire.
