On Saturday, these eggs were taken from a distribution trailer situated outside Pete & Gerry’s Organics, around 8:40 p.m.
Upon the arrival of Pennsylvania State Police Chambersburg, it was confirmed that approximately 100,000 eggs had been stolen, with a minimum value of $40,000.
“Pete & Gerry’s is aware of a recent incident in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and we are actively collaborating with local law enforcement to investigate,” the company stated in a message to CNN on Tuesday.
“We take this incident seriously and are dedicated to resolving it as swiftly as possible. Due to the ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further comments on this issue,” the statement continued.
In the meantime, officials have not disclosed how such a significant theft could have happened without detection, nor if they have any potential leads in the investigation.
According to a CNN report, the average egg price in December 2024 was $4.15, representing a roughly 14% increase from November. The annual rolling average price stands at $3.17.
