9 Individuals Arrested Following Altercation with Texas Guard

An undocumented immigrant from Honduras was one of nine individuals charged by Texas authorities for their involvement in breaching a border wall in El Paso, Texas, as reported by the New York Post on Wednesday.

The nine individuals are facing charges including inciting a riot, property damage exceeding $2,500, and assault on National Guard members, according to a state government source cited by the Post.

Junior Evaristo-Benitez, a 21-year-old from Honduras, was charged with assaulting a public servant, a third-degree felony, by deliberately stomping on a soldier’s knee, as reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Eliot Torres. Border report stated that Evaristo-Benitez committed this act with malice.

Last Thursday, hundreds of undocumented immigrants rushed toward a fenced wall in El Paso, tearing it down before facing Texas National Guard troops. Videos showed some migrants breaking through razor wire barriers erected by the National Guard in an attempt to breach the wall.

After the incident, authorities found knives and shanks on some of the migrants involved, according to a National Guard source cited by the Post. During the chaos, at least one migrant tried to grab a soldier’s firearm, and some soldiers had to seek medical treatment for their injuries at a nearby hospital.

“These individuals were willing to attack military personnel and law enforcement officers. They showed complete disregard for our laws,” stated the Texas government source speaking to the Post.

In response to the incident, the state has deployed additional resources to the area, including 700 soldiers, state troopers armed with pepper ball guns, and more barbed wire to deter further illegal crossings, as reported by the Post.
