Abortion Rights Amendment 4 Defeated, 6-Week Ban Remains – One America News Network

Florida’s abortion-right Amendment 4 has failed, leaving the 6-week ban in place.

According to the Associated Press, Amendment 4, which would have outlawed legislation limiting abortion “before fetal viability” or when it was required to safeguard the health of a pregnant woman, received 58.4% of the vote.
The constitutional amendment’s failure is a significant win for Governor Ron Desantis (R-Fla.), as he has opposed it.
It also essentially permits Florida’s current “heartbeat law,” which forbids abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, to stay in place.
The state was among 10 other U.S. states that hold abortion-related measures on Election Day ballots.
Former President Donald Trump stated that he believes “the six weeks is too short. It has to be more time.”
Additionally, many women maintain that even after 6 weeks, it is extremely difficult to know if one is pregnant, since women can miss their “time of month” cycle simply due to stress, certain medications, or even weight loss.
In August, when asked about the proposed amendment, Trump said: “I want more weeks.”
“I am going to be voting that we need more than six weeks,” he added.
Trump also stated on Fox News the next day that he “will be voting no” on Amendment 4, arguing that “you need more time than 6 weeks,” due to radical-Left states that permit abortions up until the ninth month of pregnancy.
