According to Reuters/Ipsos Poll, Biden Holds Slight 1-Point Lead over Trump

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll found that President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are in a statistical tie leading up to the November presidential election.

The survey, which closed on Wednesday, showed that 39% of registered voters would vote for Biden, while 38% would choose Trump. Biden’s slight 1 point lead falls within the poll’s margin of error, making it a statistical tie.

There is still a significant number of undecided voters, with 11% considering other candidates, 5% not planning to vote, and 7% unsure or refusing to answer.

Both candidates have their own challenges, with voters expressing concerns about Biden’s age and Trump facing upcoming criminal trials, including charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

The nationwide survey, which included various measures of support for Biden and Trump, indicated a close race with Biden holding a lead among registered voters, which could be crucial in the upcoming election.

While Trump led among respondents in general, Biden’s lead among registered voters is significant as those already registered are more likely to vote. Voter turnout was not at its highest in the 2020 election, with only two-thirds of eligible voters participating.

In the seven states where the election was closest in 2020, the poll showed Trump leading Biden among registered voters, pointing to potentially critical battleground states in November.

With many voters feeling uninspired by either candidate, the survey also revealed that independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr could garner 15% of votes if included as a third option on the ballot.

The poll showed that Kennedy could attract support from both Trump and Biden supporters. In a head-to-head matchup, Biden was slightly ahead of Trump among registered voters.

Trump, who secured enough delegates to be the Republican Party’s candidate, is facing challenges among independent voters and even within his own party. Only a small percentage of supporters of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are planning to vote for Trump now that she has dropped out of the race.

Additionally, the poll highlighted disagreements among registered voters regarding a recent court ruling in Alabama regarding frozen embryos and fertility treatments.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online and gathered responses from 4,094 U.S. adults, including 3,356 registered voters. The margin of error was 1.8% for registered voters and 1.7% for all respondents.
