ACLU Prepares to Challenge Trump’s Immigration Raids and Large-Scale Deportations

Trump’s campaign revolves around tough immigration measures, including major arrest operations and mass deportations. He has also mentioned ending birthright citizenship and restarting policies like his travel ban and family separations.
Trump’s team plans to streamline arrests and deportations, but the ACLU argues that these actions would violate constitutional rights and protections against unreasonable searches and seizures.

The Heritage Foundation’s “Project 2025” handbook suggests that a potential second Trump administration would be better prepared to face legal challenges on immigration than the first term.
Although legal challenges have stopped some of Trump’s immigration policies in the past, the ACLU continues to plan for future legal battles. The group urges state and local leaders to fund legal counsel for immigrants and cooperate in tracking large-scale arrests and racial profiling.
The ACLU plans to release several more policy memos in response to Trump’s promises leading up to the Republican National Convention in July. They are also gearing up to challenge Biden’s immigration policies and plan to release issue memos for Biden’s reelection bid ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August.
