Advice from Obama’s former strategist to Biden: Concentrate on Trump

David Axelrod, a longtime strategist and senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, emphasized the importance for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign to “focus” on the Republican front-runner, former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with CNN this week, Axelrod addressed media reports concerning Biden’s health and age.

“Elections are a choice, they’re not a referendum,” Axelrod stated, urging Biden’s campaign to “get out of the referendum more and really focus on Donald Trump, who is an epically flawed candidate.”

While Axelrod acknowledged age concerns regarding Biden, 81, he suggested that the campaign should strategize on how to “present” the president and “shift the focus to Donald Trump.”

In a previous interview with Politico, Axelrod expressed frustration over reactions to concerns shared by him and other Biden supporters regarding the campaign.

“Sometimes there’s reason to be concerned,” Axelrod noted. “And there are a lot of really smart and committed supporters of Biden who have concerns.

“It’s essential to address these concerns and distinguish between what is legitimate and what needs action. Many dedicated supporters of Joe Biden have expressed concerns, especially with Donald Trump as the opposing candidate. Therefore, I found it tone-deaf and unhelpful.”
