Advisers to Trump Suggest Potential Candidates for Federal Reserve Chair

Former President Donald Trump’s economic advisers gathered at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida to discuss the future of the Federal Reserve, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Economists Steve Moore and Arthur Laffer presented Trump with a list of potential candidates for the Federal Reserve leadership. The proposed candidates include Kevin Warsh, a former adviser to President George W. Bush and former Fed Board member; Kevin Hassett, former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers under Trump; and Laffer, a former adviser to President Ronald Reagan, who also nominated himself.

Trump, who has been critical of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, has not made any commitments to the candidates. The search for Powell’s successor comes as his term is set to end in 2026. Various outside groups are putting forth their own candidates, sparking discussions about the Fed’s future role.
