After Conviction, Trump Campaign Raises $53 Million
The campaign of Donald Trump announced on Friday that it had raised nearly $53 million in online small-dollar donations following his conviction in a New York hush money trial. They boasted that the verdict had energized his support “like never before.”
The campaign advisors reported that more than a third of the total amount came from new donors, with an “outpouring of support from patriots across the country.”
Despite temporary online delays due to a high volume of traffic from small-dollar donors, the campaign managed to raise a staggering $52.8 million by Friday evening.
Trump was convicted on all 34 charges of falsifying business records related to a sex scandal during the 2016 presidential campaign. He is set to be sentenced on July 11 but is expected to appeal the verdict.
The advisors blamed Joe Biden and the Democrats for the investigation, claiming it had “awakened the MAGA movement like never before.”
Trump’s campaign website quickly redirected visitors to a fundraising page declaring him a “political prisoner” after the conviction, leading to a surge in supporters overwhelming the donation platform.
Trump has a history of portraying himself as a martyr fighting against the “deep state” and Biden’s administration. He has compared himself to Nelson Mandela and Jesus Christ in the past.
On his platform Truth Social, Trump posted, “WITCH HUNT! IF THIS CAN HAPPEN TO ME, IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE!”
