AG Garland Stands Firm: ‘I Refuse to Be Intimidated by House Republicans’

Attorney General Merrick Garland is set to confront Donald Trump’s Republican allies in the House on Tuesday, accusing them of spreading false narratives that put law enforcement at risk and undermine the integrity of the Justice Department.

“I will not be intimidated,” Garland plans to tell lawmakers before the House Judiciary Committee. “And the Justice Department will not be intimidated. We will continue to do our jobs free from political influence and defend our democracy.”

Garland’s appearance marks the first time he has testified before Congress since Trump’s conviction in New York City. Trump still faces other criminal cases, including investigations into election fraud allegations and possession of classified documents.

Republicans claim the cases are politically motivated, aiming to interfere in the 2024 election.

Garland will denounce Republican demands for audio recordings and defend law enforcement against Trump’s inflammatory comments, calling the attacks on the Justice Department unfounded and unlikely to influence decision-making.
