AG Morrisey Urges Newsmax: Relocate Trump’s Trial from DC to West Virginia
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has suggested that the trial of former President Donald Trump for his alleged role in the Capitol riot should be held in West Virginia instead of Washington, D.C. Morrisey argues that the strong opinions and bias in the capital could hinder Trump’s chances of a fair trial. He specifically proposed Martinsburg as a potential venue, citing its proximity to the district and the presence of a federal courthouse. Morrisey referenced past cases, such as the Oklahoma City bombings and the D.C. snipers, where the venue was changed to ensure impartiality. He referred to Trump’s indictment as an “extraordinary situation” and expressed support for moving the trial. The indictment, filed by the Department of Justice, charges Trump with four counts related to conspiracy to defraud the country and overturn the 2020 election. Trump pled not guilty to all charges during his arraignment. Morrisey’s suggestion to move the trial to West Virginia comes after Trump himself called for the change, claiming that the state was more favorable towards him.
